Abstract: Given the growing urgency to mitigate the effects of climate change, the construction sector stands out as one of the largest global emitters of greenhouse gases (GHGs), accounting for approximately 39% of energy-related emissions. This underscores the need for precise environmental assessments throughout the building life cycle. This study quantifies the embodied carbon emissions associated with the construction of a high-end six-story multifamily residential building in Brasília, Brazil, using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, with a cradle-to-construction site scope (stages A1–A5), covering the foundation, structure, envelope, internal partitions, and interior finishes. The analysis was based on executive project data and actual data collected directly on-site, enabling a comparison between budget forecasts and the effective consumption of materials. Secondary data were drawn from recognized inventories such as Ecoinvent and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), assuming a 50- year service life. Results indicated a total of 393.73 kg CO₂eq/m² of embodied emissions (based on actual construction data), with the structure as the main contributor (47%), followed by interior finishes (23%) and the foundation (7.3%). Concrete was the most emission-intensive material, with 141.63 kg CO₂eq/m², due to its high usage volume, followed by steel (61.18 kg CO₂eq/m²) and granite (21.40 kg CO₂eq/m²). The comparison between project and actual construction data revealed a 16.54% increase in total emissions, highlighting significant discrepancies in material use and transport distances, especially in the foundation and finishes. These findings emphasize the limitations of relying solely on preliminary budgets for environmental analyses and highlight the importance of integrating actual data into LCA models, contributing robust metrics for developing national carbon benchmarks and more effective decarbonization strategies in the construction sector.
