Abstract:	Within the framework of translation studies, this dissertation examines the production of Caroline Schlegel-Schelling (1763-1809), a little-known author and translator of the Jena Circle and German pre-Romanticism. Drawing on the theories of authors such as Walter Benjamin, Barbara Cassin, and Antoine Berman, the research establishes a link between translation, history, and otherness from the perspective of German pre-Romanticism. Drawing on the work of authors such as Andrea Wulf and Sigrid Damm, it argues that the socio-political instability and constant foreign threat that characterized the period are crucial elements in understanding Caroline SchlegelSchelling's epistolary writing. The letters, imbued with the urgency of life, uncertainties and reflections on the other, are analyzed from the point of view of the practice of translation. This is understood as a network of dynamic exchange between 18th century German and contemporary Portuguese, exploring the possibilities of experimental literary translation. In this specific context, translation not only reveals aspects of unique epistolary writing, but also highlights the presence of a revolutionary woman for her time, who used writing as a form of expression and intervention in the world.
