Abstract:	This thesis investigates the complex interactions that drive and hinder the control of deforestation in the municipalities that make up the Arc of Deforestation in the Legal Amazon. Based on a multidimensional approach, the study analyzes three main aspects in three academic articles: urban organization, socioeconomic dynamics, and the spatial behavior of government expenditures in environmental management. The first article explores the rural-urban typology, the hierarchy, and the infrastructure of these municipalities, revealing an extended and diffuse urbanization, with a predominance of local centers and significant disparities in infrastructure and connectivity. The second article evaluates the deforestation frontier in relation to per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the Municipal Human Development Index (MHDI), highlighting that the advance of deforestation has not been accompanied by proportional socioeconomic improvements, and that municipalities with high deforestation often exhibit low development indicators, suggesting the prevalence of illegal or unsustainable activities. The third article, in turn, investigates how environmental management expenditures and deforestation behave in space, revealing a misalignment between the allocation of federal resources and the main deforestation hotspots, which compromises the effectiveness of control policies. The collective findings of this thesis point to fragmented environmental governance and a lack of strategic integration between sectoral policies, highlighting the urgent need for more holistic territorial approaches that consider local specificities and effectively articulate urban organization, socioeconomic development, and targeted resource allocation for effective conservation in the Amazon.
