| Abstract: | The research line adopted in this work is Translation and Sociodiscursive Practices from the Graduate Program in Translation Studies at the University of Brasília (Postrad/UnB). Its object of study is the translation process of institutional informative content produced by the Department of Traffic of the Federal District (Detran/DF) into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), with an emphasis on the specialized lexicon related to obtaining a Driver's License (CNH). The target audience includes Deaf individuals and users of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) who wish to obtain a CNH—commonly known as a driver's license—as well as translators, interpreters, examiners, instructors, and others interested in the field. Thus, the objective is to translate information from Portuguese into Libras, making it available in the form of video guides on the official social media channels of Detran/DF, in order to broaden Deaf people's access to legal guidelines and promote accessibility. The specific research objectives consist of: i) researching existing laws and rights regarding the right of Deaf people to drive and obtain a CNH; ii) analyzing Translation and Interpretation Studies of Sign Languages (ETILS) in search of research focused on translation; and iii) reviewing websites of other State Traffic Departments (Detrans) to verify whether there is formative and informative content available in Libras. The theoretical framework was divided into three parts: the first part deals with translation studies; the second with translation and interpretation studies of sign languages; and finally, with translation processes. The methodological approach was divided into five steps: i) identification of the objective and target audience; ii) receipt of videos sent by the Communication Department of Detran/DF (Ascom); iii) organization of the translation project and preparation of glosses, based on references from Nord (1991, 2005), Barbosa (2004), and Santiago (2012); iv) recording of videos in Libras and translation (voice-over) following the principles of Xavier (2022); and v) validation of the recordings with the Libras team working in the Graduate Program in Translation Studies (Postrad/UnB) and with the team of the “Libras tem Voz” program from the Communication Department of Detran/DF. As a result, nine video guides were produced, offering information in Libras for obtaining a CNH. The set of video guides produced in the project demonstrated that it is possible to combine accessibility, communicative quality, and social commitment in a single product. |
