Abstract:	With the advancement and strengthening of neoliberalism around the world, profound transformations have been observed in the social, economic and political organization of the most diverse countries, one of the changes being the one observed in the subjectivity of individuals. With this in mind, this dissertation investigates the historical development of neoliberal governmentality and the characteristics of the neoliberal subject. To this end, the research addresses the transformations of different forms of power over the last centuries, highlighting their contributions to neoliberalism, analyzed here from the perspective of rationality, not as an economic model, but as a normative system that, based on discourses, practices and techniques, shapes and guides the conduct of countries, institutions and people. In this way, this new rationality produces certain ways of thinking, relating and living, with competition and the business model of the self as the norm of subjectivation and, as a consequence, psychic exhaustion and emotional illnesses, as well as the weakening of the values of solidarity and empathy, resulting in a social selfishness that makes it difficult to confront the current system.
