Abstract:	The Federal District presents high crime rates. In this study, the 'PIX Scam' is addressed as a type of fraud-based larceny committed through electronic deception. Fraudsters publish fake advertisements on the internet as strategies to attract potential targets and subsequently perpetrate their scams. This research sought to investigate whether the profiles of sex, race, education level, and age group of PIX Scam victims, from 2020 to 2023, in the Administrative Regions of the Federal District corresponding to their places of residence, exerted a significant influence on their vulnerability to fraud. Data from the Civil Police of the Federal District, in addition to information collected from open sources, were organized in Excel and processed in STATA software in order to conduct statistical and descriptive analyses. The Panel Data methodology was employed to estimate regressions in time series, using annual information for the four years under study. Additionally, for the year 2021, a Cross-Section analysis was carried out. The research revealed that individuals with higher levels of education are more prone to falling victim to scams. As they are generally integrated into the labor market, they possess greater purchasing power on the internet and tend to seek products with substantial discounts. However, by trusting deceptive offers, they make advance payments through PIX and consequently incur financial losses. The findings also indicated that women were more frequently misled than men. Moreover, per capita income and unemployment rate were used as proxies, since they were not part of the initial analyses, but they reflect the level of economic development of the populations in the Administrative Regions studied. The study concludes that individuals with higher incomes, who usually also have higher educational levels, are more likely to be deceived. On the other hand, the unemployed engage in fewer online consumer transactions and therefore have lower exposure to scams.
