Abstract:	This dissertation focuses on Walter Benjamin's doctoral thesis, The Concept of Criticism in German Romanticism. The central concept examined is reflection, followed by an exploration of how the artwork operates as a medium-of-reflection within the Romantic conception of criticism, which shifts the traditional understanding of aesthetics away from taste-based critique. Benjamin delves into the writings of Schlegel and Novalis to analyze their pursuit of a form of criticism immanent to reflection, aiming to legitimize the philosophy of art and its role within epistemology—not as systematization but as cyclical formation. Criticism, as a medium, inaugurates a process wherein art is no longer judged based on external rules, such as those of genre theory. This notion of the absolute containing "spiritual essences" dissolves the division between subject and object. The debate is extensive, involving key philosophers such as Kant, Fichte, and Goethe. This study seeks to explore the realm where artworks transcend the application of fixed rules to become potential reflective unfoldings. It is within this context, questioning a certain critical method, that Benjamin's reading of the Jena Romantics is analyzed, situating it within the historical and intellectual landscape of the time while aiming to grasp concepts that also resonate in his later works.
