Abstract: Through information and communication technologies and the ease of access, society increasingly produces, utilizes, and disseminates image resources. Thus, photographic records have been present in various activities performed in society since the advent of photography, nearly two centuries ago. The main objective of this study was investigate the public photographic collections of the Government of the Federal District (GDF) that reflect the historical process of territorial settlement of the Brazilian Central Plateau, beginning with the construction of Brasília, and analyze the importance of their use in governmental and scientific contexts. The conceptual basis is grounded in Information Science, particularly in aspects related to Photodocumentation and the territorial settlement of the Brazilian central plateau, and its photographic holdings. In line with the identified research question and the proposed objectives, the methodological procedure initially involved analyzing the administrative structure of the GDF; mapping the district public institutions that hold collections and/or photographic documents related to territorial settlement; identifying the local public institutional photographic holdings or documents; and finally, developing the cycles and informational designs, using the instrumental scheme of the Information Cycle by Saraiva and Lopez (2023) and the proposal for an Information Architecture model by Lima-Marques and Macedo (2006), related to gathering , organization, and availability of the located items. Thus, this research can be classified as qualitative and exploratory, with a documentary and bibliographic nature. The data gathering instrument combined comprehensive observation with open questionnaires. Among the results achieved, the mapping of the district administrative structure and the corresponding identification of public institutions holding photographic documents were observed. The existence, location, thematic characterization, organization, and access methods of such information were revealed. The results potentially contribute to the scientific debates surrounding Information Science and Photodocumentation, with their multiple ramifications.
