Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the impact of socioeconomic and demographic variables on the propensity for indebtedness of military public servants of the Military Fire Brigade of the Federal District (CBMDF), considering salary discounts on consignments. Using comprehensive data from 2009 to 2023, with a significant number of observations (1,560,235) and individuals (11,526), the research applied several econometric models for longitudinal estimation of binary logistic regression with panel data, including Pooled Logit models, PA Logit, Fixed Effects and Random Effects, to identify and quantify the impact of socioeconomic and demographic variables on the probability of indebtedness. The results revealed that the variables that presented a statistically significant relationship with consignment debt include age, number of dependents, income, marital status, functional status, alimony deduction, compensation from the CBMDF Health Fund, specialization courses, career (officer or enlisted), receiving bonuses (GSV and GFNE) and extra remuneration (PTTC). The research identified that younger, more active individuals with lower income are more likely to get into debt. Furthermore, married employees were more prone to debt, suggesting the need for more robust financial planning for this group. The analysis also demonstrated that employees who receive bonuses and extra remuneration had a greater tendency to become indebted, indicating the false perception that higher income could reduce dependence on payroll loans. For future research, it is recommended to explore complementary sources of income for military personnel and the psychosocial and behavioral factors that influence debt. Furthermore, comparing results with other military and civilian bodies can help identify significant patterns and differences, while evaluating the impact of financial education programs can offer practical solutions for reducing debt.
