| Abstract: | The study seeks to analyze Tertiarization and the Services Sector in Brazil in the period 2010-2019. The study uses methods of Structural Decomposition of Employment and Structural Decomposition of Gross Value of Production, with data from estimated Input-Output Matrices disaggregated into 67 sectors for Brazil . It is argued that tertiarization is explained in the literature with three factors: the greater income elasticity of demand for service products, the inter-firm division of labor based on a movement towards outsourcing of tertiary activities and productivity differentials based on the assumption that services are subject to the “cost disease” hypothesis. In addition, it deals with the subject connecting the repercussions of the great changes that occurred in the productive system from what became known as the “Third Industrial Revolution”. In this vein, it is pointed out that factors related to greater integration between the manufacturing sector and services, especially modern services - knowledge-intensive services - are relevant aspects for the analysis of the degree of development of an economy and its respective tertiary sector, as well as the new international division of labor, which had repercussions on different trajectories of tertiarization processes in developing and developed economies. The Decomposition methods used take into account changes in relative prices and, therefore, allow a better visualization of sectoral growth trends. The study concludes that there are projections that occupations generated in the tertiary sector remained at positions of low productivity in some sectors - specially, in “Accomodation and Food” and “Services provided to families and associations”. Furthermore, the study found that “Information Services” gained relevance from the growth of “Telecommunications” and “Systems Development and other Information services”. In addition, in relation to “Business Services”, it was seen that the biggest contribution to its growth refers to activities of low aggregation of knowledge. |
