Abstract:	Introduction: Since 2009, Abrasco has been intensifying the discussion on the “commitment of science, technology and innovation to the right to health” from the perspective of the science, technology and innovation sector and/or quadruple helix (state – university – industry – society). In this context, the university is considered a social actor in the production of research, development and innovation (RD&I) for incorporation into health care. Translational research in health (PTS) has become an important methodological tool to increase the indicators of patent deposits, technology transfers and the generation of royalties arising from the university. These elements contribute to the maintenance and development of the Unified Health System through the translation of knowledge generated by the university to health care intermediated by the industrial economic complex in health. Objective: To analyze the generation of knowledge carried out by UnB with a view to reducing health impacts caused by the covid-19 pandemic based on the translational research model implemented in the RD&I of the VESTA Respirator. Methodology: This study is part of the theoretical-methodological framework of qualitative research to understand the phenomenon that involved the actions and practices of the interdisciplinary group of biomedical engineering at UnB in its frantic movement - with a focus on transforming a research project into a product for enjoyment of health professionals. Single case study for the development and production of an EPI mask model N95 PFF2 with chitosan nanoparticles called VESTA Respirator. Results: Patent deposits, technology transfers and consequently the generation of royalties are more linked to the innovation process, that is, to the transformation of basic and/or applied research carried out within universities into products that can be assimilated by those in healthcare; definitively, translational research in health configures as a non-linear research process, for the analysis of the case study of the VESTA Respirator, critical aspects such as the regulatory and productive bottlenecks of the technology scientifically developed by the university indicate the non-linear characteristic of PTS; without an organized health industrial economic complex, there is no translation process. Conclusion: The University of Brasília is considered a vector of translational health research.
