| Abstract: | From the construction perspective, the performance matter must be reliably treated from existing evidence. It is known that the amount of information needed is extremely large, which makes this process increasingly complex in several sectors. The main objective of this thesis is to establish an information flow model for different stakeholders, in order to involve them in the collaborative effort to continuously improve the building performance encompassing the construction project phases, incorporated into BIM. This work adopts the Design Science Research (DSR) as methodology which consists of comprehending the activities of a system as well as making changes and transforming situations in order to seek improvements. The research was divided into three cycles: comprehension, development and consolidation. The comprehension cycle started with the systematic mapping of the literature and later with the diagnosis made with professionals in the civil construction sector through semi-structured interviews and document analysis. As a result of this phase, it was possible to observe that an appropriate understanding of aspects related to the building performance in all the construction project phases has the potential to contribute to the development of procedures to improve the flow of information or the decision-making process. The development cycle is related to the elaboration and validation of the proposed solution. The information flow model which was proposed is a result of elaboration of the Performance Information Mapping (PIM) for the construction project and the building, the plug-in NBR15575. The PIM aimed to identify and define both the responsibilities and the performance activities phases, while the plug-in aims to assist in the applicability of the Brazilian Performance Standard. The developed artifact was presented and evaluated by professionals in the civil construction sector who reflected about the amount of information involved in the process and also highlighted that the integration of the building performance requirements with the construction project phases is essential for the improvement of internal processes as well as the need to ensure the involvement of all agents. The consolidation cycle consisted of reflecting on the results obtained in the previous phases. The outcome of the model is particularly important for all stakeholders to prioritize the underlying information and activities in terms of their criticality for collaborative development among participants and to obtain the desired results from the project. It is observed that the integration of building performance information must interact in all phases of the construction project. It is also important to mention that managing this information is not a simple process and requires contextual knowledge, leadership, and communication and management skills. |
