Abstract: This master's dissertation aims to study the narrative of the communication vehicle Folha de S. Paulo about the largest water crisis ever recorded in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, a phenomenon whose effects were felt between 2014 and 2016. To this end, the Critical Analysis of Narrative (ACN) will be the theoretical-methodological approach used, since it can be applied to the study of phatic narratives, such as journalistic narratives present daily in the news. The choice is also due to the fact that the main purpose of ACN is to reveal the communicative relationship between the narrator and his public through narratives. Therefore, the research to be undertaken seeks to understand how it works the communicative relationship between a major press vehicle and its public about a water crisis, in the case of the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, through journalistic narratives. This crisis was chosen because it received wide press coverage during the analyzed period, given that Folhaalone published at least 1,249 news reports on the subject during the period, including news, columns and editorials with the terms "water crisis" and/or "Sistema Cantareira". In this context, 38 were analyzed within the scope of Folha de S. Paulo’s coverage of the phenomenon in question in seven episodes identified by this research. Based on the knowledge about the narrative built by the communication vehicle about the biggest water crisis ever experienced by São Paulo citizens, this study identifies the main characters that integrate the stories told, such as the Government of the State of São Paulo and its governor between 2014 and 2016, Geraldo Alckmin, who act especially as villains. Meanwhile, the population of the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo plays the role of victim affected by recurrent water supply cuts, as well as the role of heroin when seeks alternatives and ways to contribute to solving the situation. Also based on the Critical Analysis of Narrative, the main conflicts, in the narrative sense, on Folha de S. Paulo’s coverage concerning the water crisis in question, are analyzed, such as those between the population of São Paulo, especially the one in the outskirts, and the Government of São Paulo State in the context of water shortage in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. The verified metanarratives, background narratives that contain moral or cultural values, reveal meanings such as that the State lacks the necessary transparency for information of public interest, much as those that refer to the real severity of a water crisis. Another of the main metanarratives found concerns the prioritization of political interests in the management of the Greater São Paulo water crisis over technical requirements to solve the situation. By checking under which perspectives the issue of water is portrayed in the Folha de S. Paulo news analyzed, one realizes that water is positioned in this narrative predominantly as an input for economic and daily activities of the population especially in the domestic environment, that is a perspective of water with a paramount role for public supply
