Abstract:	This thesis deals with the theme of the holocausto as an expression of evil from the point of view of testimonial literature and memory through reading and analysis of works Is this a man? and A truce, by Primo Levi; The life and struggle of a holocaust survivor, by Sabina Kustin; Towards the life, by Olga Papadopol; I want to live: memories of an ex-dead man, by Joseph Nichthauser; and Landscapes of the metropolis of death, by Otto Dov Kulka. Methodological resources were used concepts and studies of authors such as Paul Ricoeur (memory and forgetfulness); Beatriz Sarlo (time and memory); Márcio Seligmann-Silva (literature withtestimonial content); Georges Bataille and Rüdiger Safranski (on “evil”); Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan (the unconscious, the real, the imaginary, trauma and mourning); Theodor Adorno (on the holocaust and the aftermath on the war); Hannah Arendt (on the rights of man and his analysis on the holocaust) and Walter Benjamin, among others. The authors of the works that compose the literary corpus take to their writings the marks of Nazism - a time when evil and destruction prevailed in a significant and singular way. The accounts of the Holocaust reconstruct the image of this historical fact and its repercussion in the world. The Jewish holocaust is a subject that is not exhaustive because of its size and complexity and involves several areas of knowledge: literature, law, journalism, philosophy, ethics, sociology, psychology, literature having a primary role in spreading historical facts by witness. It is up to the Academy to recover that role. In this thesis, we perceive that man is able to practice evil brought about by various factors and to overcome all limits when his goal is power and wealth. Reading and disseminating these testimonies is a way of cultivating this memory and showing that Auschwitz can not be erased, forgotten.
