Uma janela para o mundo : o uso da internet para desenvolver a competência intercultural em aulas de língua estrangeira (inglês)

Abstract

Esta dissertação objetiva analisar o uso das ferramentas de comunicação, disponibilizadas na internet, no contexto de aulas de língua inglesa. As ferramentas foram utilizadas para auxiliar o desenvolvimento da competência intercultural (CI), por entendermos que elas favorecem a interação e o intercâmbio cultural. Sob o paradigma qualitativo do estudo de caso intervencionista, esta pesquisa desenvolveu-se em uma turma do Ensino Médio de uma escola pública do interior do Estado de Goiás, inicialmente com 33 alunos, dos quais 17 realizaram todas as etapas da pesquisa. Como instrumentos de pesquisa, foram utilizados questionários, observações das interações, notas de campo e os registros das interações realizadas por Skype e e-mail. O embasamento teórico fundamentou-se nas teorias de ensino e aprendizagem de línguas, cultura/interculturalidade e as novas tecnologias de informação e comunicação (NTICs) no ensino de línguas. Os resultados obtidos sugerem que a interação entre aprendizes de línguas estrangeiras e falantes nativos ou não dessas línguas contribui para o desenvolvimento da Competência Comunicativa e, por conseguinte, da Competência Intercultural dos alunos, uma vez que motiva os aprendizes a fazerem uso da língua-alvo e, ao mesmo tempo, favorece o intercâmbio cultural e linguístico entre os participantes da interação. Os resultados mostram que houve mudanças nas representações sociais e nos estereótipos que os aprendizes expuseram quando a pesquisa foi iniciada. Os dados alcançados nesta investigação oferecem contribuições acerca de estudos futuros sobre crenças, atitudes e intercâmbio intercultural. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

This dissertation aims to analyze the use of communication tools available on the Internet in the context of English language classes. The tools were used to assist the development of intercultural competence (IC), because we understand that they support interaction and cultural exchange. Under the qualitative paradigm of interventional case study, this research was developed in a High School group at a public school in the state of Goias, initially with 33 students, of whom 17 underwent all stages of research. As research instruments, questionnaires, observations of interactions, field notes and records of interactions made by Skype and email were used. The theoretical foundation was based on theories of teaching and learning languages, culture / intercultural issues and new information and communication technologies (NICT) in language teaching. The results suggest that the interaction between foreign language learners and native or non-natives speakers of these languages contributes to the development of Communicative Competence and, therefore, of Intercultural Competence of students, since that motivates the learners to make use of the target language and at the same time, promotes cultural and linguistic exchange among participants of the interaction. The results show that there were changes in social perceptions and stereotypes that learners exposed when the research began. The data obtained in this research offer contributions to future studies on beliefs, attitudes and intercultural exchange.
