| pt_BR |

| dc.description.abstract1 | From an ontological point of view, we are experiencing a “crisis of a particular world,”
in which modern practices can threaten the existence of indigenous ways of life as
unviable or erase them. Although legitimate as solutions, many sustainability and
conservation initiatives risk reproducing the same logics of modern ontology that they
intend to overcome, by prioritizing models that sometimes homogenize the diversity of
life forms. In Brazil, indigenous lands are priority areas for environmental conservation
and spaces that sustain indigenous ways of life. In this context, the territorial and
environmental management of indigenous lands is articulated as a complex and
contradictory practice that seeks to integrate “life projects” with technical-bureaucratic
management instruments. This research aimed to understand how the Territorial and
Environmental Management Plan of the Yanomami Indigenous Land (TIY's PGTA)
constitutes a device that mediates realities through the lens of environmental
management within the context of public policies in indigenous lands. Situated within
the theoretical field of political ontology, this research used Reflective Thematic
Analysis (RTA) to understand how the plan stabilizes ontological agreements between
Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, observing potential ontological conflicts in the
environmental management proposals of the TIY's PGTA. As a result of this research, it
was observed that the PGTA shapes various themes and, therefore, constructs, distorts,
and transforms realities in multiple directions. It identified that the management plan,
which articulates the Yanomami Indigenous Territory both as a space of Indigenous
"habitation" and as an area protected by practices of discipline and regulation, stabilizes
agreements and consensuses asymmetrically, reinforcing its technical-bureaucratic
character. It was demonstrated that the narrative construction of the TIY's PGTA
coordinates and distributes the relationship between humans and non-humans – animals,
plants, rivers, mountains, and other entities – under the framework of the concept of
"natural resources" and renders invisible radically disparate conceptions of the
relationship with nature. However, the analysis suggests that the TIY’s PGTA creates
space for pluriversal practices, enabling the integration of both modern and traditional
indigenous techniques. This indicates that, within the management of the territory, there
is tangible room to negotiate multiple worlds. As the research pointed out, the
possibility of constituting multiple worlds and not invalidating and erasing the
Yanomami and Ye’kwana ways of life involves validating indigenous relational
practices in policy, such as shamanic negotiation practices with the xapiri spirits and
ritual songs for planting Ye’kwana fields. Consequently, this research proposes that,
when implementing the PGTA’s environmental management initiatives, stakeholders
from modern institutions should adopt the concepts of 'multiple worlds' and 'ontological
conflicts' as analytical keys. This approach is essential to recognize and safeguard the
indigenous sustainability practices that are fundamental to forest conservation. | pt_BR |
