| Abstract: | Recent progress in nanoelectronics suggests that stacking armchair graphene nanoribbons (AGNRs) into bilayer systems generates materials with emergent quasiparticle properties. In this context, the width of these nanoribbons is particularly relevant. However, its effect oncharge carriers is still not fully understood. In this work, we investigate the effect of nanoribbonwidth and interaction between them on polaron states, using a semi-quantum Hamiltonian thatcouples electronic and lattice interactions. The results show the emergence of two types of polarons: non-symmetric and symmetric. The interlayer coupling required to induce the transitionbetween these states depends on the nanoribbon width, being approximately 174 meV in themost extreme case. Electronic properties such as the coupling threshold that induces the transition, the size of the charge carrier, and the gap (LUMO - HOMO) follow the width classificationrule of 3p, 3p+ 1, and 3p+ 2 families of AGNRs. The findings show that strong interlayer interaction delocalizes carriers and reduces the gap by up to 0.6 eV. Additionally, it was found thatsome layers are more prone to charge sharing, suggesting the possibility that in a heterogeneousstacking, a specific electronic pathway is favored. The results present a promising prospect forthe integration of these AGNR bilayer systems in future nanoelectronics applications. |
