Abstract: In agriculture, fertilizers, pesticides, and irrigation systems have been frequently used with the aim of increasing crop yields. However, many issues associated with the exhaustion of mineral reserves, contamination of environmental compartments and farmers, and limitations on water access have driven research into new agricultural inputs. In this context, products based on Carbon Dots (CDs) (e.g., Arbolina®) have gained prominence. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of applying Arbolina® on biochemical, physiological, and morphological responses in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivar BRS Radiante, subjected to different irrigation levels. Initially, a concentration-response assay was conducted using solutions containing 0, 100, 200, 300, 400, and 800 mg L-1 of Arbolina®, evaluating the fresh root and shoot mass (FRM and SFM), root and shoot dry mass (RDM and SDM), aboveground height (AH), number of leaves (NL), and leaf area index (LAI) of the common bean. Based on the observed responses, a concentration of 217.92 mg L-1 was determined to be the most promising in stimulating plant development. A second field trial was conducted using the concentration modeled in the initial assay and without the use of Arbolina® and the irrigation levels corresponding to 70, 80, 90, and 100% of the crop evapotranspiration (ETc), following a 2x4 factorial design, evaluating biometric parameters (RDM and TDM), net CO2 assimilation (A), stomatal conductance (gs), internal CO2 concentration (Ci), transpiration (E), water use efficiency (WUE), SPAD index, enzymes associated with oxidative stress (superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX)), grain productivity and quality (Y, P100, moisture, ash, lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates content). The data were subjected to the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and analysis of variance for those with a normal distribution. Significant data were subjected to Tukey's test (5%) and quadratic regressions. For gs and Y, there was no normality in the results, and there were differences in RDM, TDM, SOD, APX, and CAT enzymes, E, and SPAD index associated with the irrigation levels. The application of Arbolina® resulted in differences in WUE and CAT and SOD enzymes. In the interaction between factors (irrigation levels and Arbolina® application), effects were observed on P100 and CAT and APX enzymes. In accordance with the significant results among the application of different irrigation levels, higher production of RDM and SDM was achieved with the 100% ETc level; lower SOD enzyme activity was observed with the estimated 81.44% ETc level, and the highest APX enzyme activity was observed with the estimated 86.15% ETc level. The highest values for E and P100 were obtained by applying 90 and 100% ETc, respectively, and the lowest SPAD index was observed with the 70% ETc level. The application of Arbolina® increased WUE and P100 by 10 and 5%, respectively, but reduced CAT and SOD enzyme activity by 30 and 43%, respectively. The application of Arbolina® increased WUE, P100, and had a modulatory effect on the antioxidant activity of the plants, while plants receiving 90 and 100% ETc produced higher rates of RDM, SDM, E, and SPAD index.
