Abstract:	Drag culture has experienced a global rise into mainstream culture over the last decade, partly due to the popularization of programs such as RuPaul’s Drag Race (2009 – present). The widespread circulation of the program has contributed to the diffusion of characteristics of this culture to the general public and the translation has become a central point for the success of the show. The linguistic interaction on the reality show is characterized, amongst other things, by the presence of a specific lingo, known as camp talk, which Keith Harvey (1998) describes as a form of speech “associated with a whole range of homosexual identities”. Facing the lack of reliable reference materials on the theme in the language pair “English → Portuguese”, this study aimed to analyze the translation choices of the characteristic lexical items of camp talk in the subtitles made by Netflix. Our main goal was to observe, register, and analyze how Brazilian translators have been dealing with the lexical issues of this linguistic variant in the translation. To this end, Corpus Linguistics (CL) was used as a methodological tool. After building a parallel corpus with all the episodes of seasons 11 and 12, Untucked 11 and 12, and All Stars 5 and 6, we compared the subcorpus of the original English subtitles with a corpus of general English to highlight the keywords, through the program AntConc (ANTHONY, 2017). Amongst them, we concentrated on the ones which are typical of camp talk, based on Harvey’s (2001) and Passa’s (2021) analysis strategies. Their occurrences were analyzed in context, as well as their translations, with the help of the program AntPConc (ANTHONY, 2017). The data collected throughout the research resulted in the organization of a sample of a bilingual American English → Brazilian Portuguese glossary of camp talk and allowed us to conclude, regarding the translation of camp talk, that: i) there is a divergence between the sociolect variant of Brazilian Portuguese (pajubá) and American English (camp talk), due to a series of historical and cultural differences; ii) it is possible to use translation strategies to maintain the camp aspect, as we have observed in some examples from the corpus, even though there is a scarcity of reliable reference materials; iii) it is important to introduce and expand the notion of camp as potentially plural in both languages, always attentive to their textual and dialectal variants, so that its description can be done in a better way.
