| Abstract: | The architectural design process requires a whole comprehension of buildings in the sustainability context, especially on energetic effciency and thermodynamics perspectives. The goal of this chapter is to present the design process of a Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) in the sustainable and thermodynamic context. In this sense, the case of study is a Project of an Industrial Hangar of Glass Recycling located in Brasília. The design process aims to minimize energy dependency using a design adapted to local climate conditions, additionally, it provides clean energy locally. For the project development, a computer simulation was used as a methodology with DesignBuilder (v5.5) and Revit (2019) since early design. Those tools allowed testing several design alternatives by thermal and energetic analysis, natural lighting, and shapes validations that could improve the building performance. The industrial hangar’s project outcomes are 81% hours occupied with thermal comfort, 80% of the area with natural lighting during the day, and a 71% reduction of energy consumption. It is highlighted the installation of photovoltaic modules at the main building, due to the high solar radiation incident in Brasilia during in signifcant part of the year. Therefore, the local energy production supplies 94% of the energetic building demand. In summary, that study case demonstrates how computational tools could aid the process through more sustainable and effcient buildings, and how integrated with renewable technology could provide NZEB constructions in Distrito Federal. |
