Abstract:	This dissertation is a mosaic of knowledge anchored in experiences that encompass the challenges of experiencing mental health care processes of people who make problematic harmful use of alcohol and other drugs, attending the Psychosocial Care Center for Alcohol and Other Drugs (CAPSad III). They presuppose the gathering of overlapping clippings and figures through the Rio da Vida tool, with the intention of knowing, recognizing, and understanding the paths and events experienced within the search for care in individual contexts. As a resource that helps in personal reflection, that is, it creatively stimulates the sharing of reflective experiences, Rio da Vida is based on the metaphor of the river, which springs, bifurcates, meets other rivers, streams, lakes, and establishes itself in the same processual design that occurs in life. Understanding where one is and one is going is fundamental to choosing and creating paths that are compatible with what one is seeking. Based on the theoretical-experienced framework of the Therapeutic Itinerary (TI), which is widely used for mapping and characterizing the paths taken in search of health, this dissertation seeks to investigate the barriers, potential, and challenges experienced daily by people who make problematic and harmful use of alcohol and other drugs by means of a research-intervention participatory research. The text is divided in three moments: Touch – awareness of service workers; Color – application of the Rio da Vida tool; Action – information feedback with those involved. Meetings, lasting approximately two hours, were held with ten users of CAPSad III to build the Rio da Vida. Data underwent thematic analysis, returning the following categories: challenging the walkers – seeing the effects of realities; floating care letters – nothing is for us without us; affective catalysts – learning by doing. In this journal, we perceived both the strengths and weaknesses in the construction of searches for care outlined by users based on each person’s experience – which are network connectors to ensure access and comprehensiveness of formal and informal care. The study highlight the design and use of tool that assists in building autonomy and co-responsibility.
