Abstract:	The present research aims to contribute with instruments and information that can subsidize in environmental management models in Brazilian ports. The lack of port environmental management procedures is repeated in practically the entire Brazilian territory, as an aggravating circumstance, and there is also the national demand for the expansion of infrastructures aimed at achieving the goals of the Investment Partnerships Program (PPI), being foreseen by the Federal Government to meet the exports and imports of the different products that circulate in the country and in the world. It is well known that the port's vocation in the coastal zone has been consecrated for several centuries, especially considering the links that can be made with the international market. In the Brazilian case, the port is relevant to foreign trade, and it triggers an increase in the volume of cargo and services associated with its activities, bringing new perspectives to the local, regional and international economy, as well as the generation of direct and indirect. However, the insertion of ports into densely industrialized regions increases the negative impacts and may lead to conflicts for the local community and depletion of natural resources. Thus, port environmental management is fundamental, as a way of articulating actions and procedures, through instruments that reduce the different environmental impacts in the affected areas. The environmental problems in port areas are complex, so solving them implies the sum of efforts of various sectors: public, private, academic, to find new alternatives to overcome administrative, financial and cultural obstacles. However, environmental management is still little applied in the Brazilian port system, considering that the initiatives are introverted in the scope of port planning, leading to the present moment in scarce and disjointed actions. Thus, the present research presents contributions to the Environmental Port Management System - SGAP in order to anticipate procedures and actions that can be applied in the country, so that Brazilian ports can present a future scenario with better environmental performance in this area. The research considered seaports for their relevance in the national scenario, based on the Brazilian port universe. Among the existing ports, the Case Study of the Port of Santos was selected for its expression, location, size and environmental management procedures, but other seaports will serve as a subsidy for the enrichment of work.
