Abstract:	Established from a verbal/visual body of artworks, the present doctoral thesis raises central questions that emerged in the confluence between artistic practice and theoretical reflection. The artworks presented here are affiliated to the interart field of word and image studies. In addition to the procedural issues of the artistic languages of collage, montage and installation, the conceptual and historical problems of procedures such as appropriation, citation, repetition and, especially, the hybridization between the visual and the verbal are investigated. The focus of this research, in practical-theoretical transit, is placed on the implications of the notion of fragment, the presence of the literary narrative in artworks, the plastic and discursive characteristics of printed material, the relevance of the act of reading in alliance to contemplation, as well as in transactions between the spheres of time and space in contemporary art.
