Abstract: This study fulfills the researcher's desire to create teaching strategies that make learning about DNA, because this content is extremely important in Biology. Therefore, a more significant way of teaching the students is necessary, which can promote the student's growth in order to face situations with autonomy and knowledge. The research, with a qualitative approach, was developed with the students in the last year of High School, from Colégio Estadual Domingos Alves Pereira, in Acreúna, Goiás, classes A, B and C, aiming to analyze how the construction of a didactic model for teaching DNA can collaborate with high school teenagers and young people in the construction of Genetic concepts and processes, without distortions and errors commonly observed in the traditional way of teaching this content. By the investigative method, based on theoretical research, the students, with the professor researcher, developed models which demonstrate the physiology of the DNA in genetic processes. The construction of patterns follow the investigative molds (research, hypothesis survey, hypothesis testing, the confirmation of hypotheses and application of models) with students being the protagonists of this construction and application. To evaluate the results of the application of the project, a survey was carried out with the students by using a questionnaire. With the results obtained in the work, we could verify the importance of didactic models in the teaching and learning processes, mainly of complex topics, as is the case of the contents related to genetics, specifically about the structure of DNA.
