| Abstract: | This work is inserted in the newsmaking theory. Here we analysed, comparatively, two cases of graphic reforms with editorial purposes: O Globo (in 1995) and Correio Braziliense (in 2000). They are two of main Brazilian newspapers, both with recognized leadership in their regions at the time of these modifications. Using the ethnographic method, we compare the alterations in the two referred newspaper looking at their respective goals, narrative (text and graphic project) and production routines (planning, agility, source and human resources ). We conclude that, to continue to be appealing to the reader, the daily newspaper have to choose their options strongly based on the principle of offering exclusive and qualitative subject matter, as alternative to the appealing of online media. We verify, comparing the texts about journalism in the sixties and seventies, that similar suggestions were proposed as a way of daily newspaper to gain on television media. We raised two hypothesis. One consider that journalism pass, periodically, by phases where old ideas are performed again as new options, as in “fashion business” . Another one is that joum alists always had ideal newspapers projects, but they never were able to fully or ideally implanted them. This second hypothesis is reinforced by the difficulties encountered by O Globo and O Correio Braziliense in execute their respective projects. |
