Abstract: STUDY ON BEHAVIORAL DIAGNOSIS OF PRODUCTIVE ACTIVITY - DCAP AS A TOOL FOR PROSPECTING AGRICULTURAL DEMANDS Data from world’s publications, especially considering the amount of resources used, have shown the importance of research, development and, more recently, innovation of R,D&I. In Brazil, in 2004, a law on innovation was enacted, called the Legal Mark of Innovation. As a theme of innovation, the transfer of the developed technologies (TT) is urgent. Embrapa's vision is to be a world reference in the generation and supply of information, knowledge and technologies. It has been observed in its various actions that occurs the R,D&I and TT through their various modalities. However, it seems that there is no complete monitoring of TT processes, because noticed that an objective product-focused assessment of adoption, considering hard data only, leaving the subjective, customer-focused assessment gap, noting that science and technology institutions (STI) have used far more efforts in interventions than in evaluating results, making them highly onerous, because without evaluating intervention programs it is not possible to know if they were effective and useful. Technology prospecting, in general, is largely used in R,D&I. Research institutions try to satisfy the demands of people, who look for products, processes and services that meet their needs in a satisfactory manner. The objective of the present study is to verify the applicability of the DCAP method as a tool to prospect demands in the agricultural and livestock sectors. A quantitative/qualitative deductive method based on data obtained from publications was used. The study also evaluated the DCAP model using the SWOT matrix. Observation shows that prospecting demands is a tool used mostly to identify a problem that research will focus on but is also a useful tool to identify the needs and future aspirations of society. Embrapa’s contributing to innovation and the sustainability of agriculture and food security. R,D&I takes place through different actions within Embrapa and technology transference occurs through different modalities. Embrapa developed a methodology known as DCAP that evaluates the adoption of technologies by focusing on behavioral indicators of those who adopt technologies, such as 9 producers, and investigating their attitudes, values, motivations, etc. The methodology includes the prospecting of demands or the identification of demands, an activity considered technology prospecting. Even though it is seldom used in the agricultural and livestock sectors, the methodology is innovative; data obtained indicates that prospecting of demands does take place. The methodology evaluates not only the adoption of technologies but also behaviors of agricultural and livestock producers in their work activities. Considering results obtained from the study, it is possible to state that the DCAP method can be used in the evaluation of the adoption of technologies in the agricultural and livestock sectors and as a model to prospect demands in these sectors.
