Abstract:	The current context of environmental degradation requires planning and management actions by the Government, ensuring a balanced environment, what is essential to the population's quality of life. Improvement of environmental assessment methodologies and indicators can contribute to the management and planning activities and the achievement of their objectives. The concept of Ecosystem Services - Ecoservs as an indicator in environmental quality assessments has been increasingly investigated and adopted worldwide. In this work, in an educational / exploratory scope, the Ecoservs in the context of the Environmental Protection Area of São Bartolomeu River Basin APA – BRSB, was assessed applying the MapES - (Mapping Ecosystem Services) methodology, to evaluate this Protected Area (in retrospective and prospective analysis). Thus was evaluated the potential to achieve the APA-BRSB objectives according to the management plan. For the prospective analysis, the Maximum Permitted Occupation (Arbitrated Scenario) scenario was defined, according to the restrictions of use and occupation of areas, strictly established by the APA-BRSB management plan Decree. The Ecoservs levels of this Arbitrated Scenario were compared with other four (4) APA-BRSB land use land cover - LULC scenarios: 1984, 1996, 2014 and a hypothetical scenario of potential natural vegetation - PNV cover (established by the MapES methodology). In the general assessment, the most significant variation was observed between scenarios PNV-1984 and 1984-1996. The scenarios were also presented, detailing the Ecoservs levels for each of the 4(four) APA-BRSB Zones. The obtained results in the prospective scenario, suggests a vulnerability of Ecoservs levels maintenance, what means that APA-BRSB’s zoning has low potential to induce or guarantee protection of ecosystems services. At the same time, we test the incorporation of an index associated with the degree of habitat fragmentation (iFrag) into the MapES methodology, intending to improve the estimative of Biodiversity Maintenance Ecoserv (iMBio) of APA BRSB native remnants from 1984, 1996 and 2014. The results of the incorporation of iFrag into iMBio (iMBio*iFrag) allow the spatial differentiation of native fragments regarding their exposure and susceptibility to the habitat fragmentation process. The results demonstrate the applicability and usefulness ix of the Ecoservs concept as indicator for assessment to environmental planning and management. It is recommended that this approach should be applied to other spatial and time frames (watersheds, basic landscape units, annual basis, for example). Is also recommended that environmental and land policy instruments should explicitly and operationally incorporate the concept of Ecoservs, using it as parameter in their approaches and mechanisms. It may contribute to the effectiveness of environmental and territorial management in Brazil.
