Abstract:	The gifted are a diverse group, so it is important to highlight that people with high abilities/ giftedness can be found anywhere, ethnicity or social class. However, there is a significant amount of people with high potential in non-hegemonic populations that have not yet been identified, including gifted rural settlements. In addition, there is a shortage of research and even reflections on the talents of rural settlement in Brazil, with the underrepresentation of this population in relation to specialized educational care. Thus, the present study aimed at investigating the characteristics of an adolescent indicated by gifted rural residents and the rural community's perception of talent. This research had a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory design. The case study participants were: a teenager, his mother, twelve rural dwellers, the coordinator and the rural school teacher. Data were collected through sociodemographic questionnaire, semi-structured interview script and field diary. These data were analyzed based on the Corbin and Strauss Grounded Theory. From a posteriori categorization, three categories were generated: (a) characteristics of gifted adolescents (b) values, practices and life dynamics in the rural settlement and (c) the perception of talent for the rural settlement. Regarding the results about the characteristics of adolescents, the following stood out: drawing skills, theater and oratory, leadership, autonomy, responsibility, motivation, creativity, social skills, sensitivity to human needs, good school grades and connection with culture. and nature. Regarding the values and practices in the rural settlement, the following stood out: the sense of equality, cooperation, collectivity and environmental awareness. In this sense, it was found that the rural community's perception of talent was related to its values and practices, so that the main characteristic attributed to a talented person was sensitivity to human needs. However, reports from rural settlement residents and the rural school teacher found myths about talent. Among the limitations of this research, we highlight the impossibility of generalizing the results to other communities due to the regional, historical and cultural differences of the sample of this research. Among the main implications of this study, we highlight the need for investments for teacher education, dissemination and guidance of families about giftedness and greater effectiveness for identification processes by specialized educational programs for gifted.
