Abstract:	The present work attempts to analyse both the occupation and transformation of space and the movement of expansion and retraction of material and symbolic borders. The analysis is done through the perspective of semiotic and therefore communicative competence. The body, as the beginning and end of semiotics, plays the main role in this study. It is the body that produces the discourse and it is on the body that the discourse is written. Grounded on semiotics methodology, I have used the body as a point of departure to view urban spaces. I have found a new cartography of ideas - sometimes macabre, sometimes orgiastic - , which brings about one other possibility of understanding speciality. In this new globalized environment, we countenance a new wave of regionalism, a strong allegiance to regional culture. We see the reappearance of tribes, ritualist movements that contribute to a gradual reconstitution of the tribal space - a fair return to barbarian principles that grounds territoriality as a phenomenon of communication.
