Abstract: This work presents the euclidian minimum norm criterion, proposed by Mello (1980), as alternative to the minimum weight criteria for synthesis of space trusses. These structures are projected in agreement with these two criteria, and comparisons are made between the Solutions obtained by euclidian minimum norm and minimum weight. After this, it’s realized a study of the development of these trusses, thru the increment elastic-plastic analysis, demonstrating the behavior of these trusses until the plastic collapse. So, in this work it will be presented studies of space trusses in the elastic regime (conventional methods), elastic plastic regime (increment method), and rigid-plastic regime (through the minimum weight and euclidian minimum norm criteria). In addition, it will be available dynamic parameters of natural ífequencies and vibration modes of the projected trusses, once when a structure enters in elastic-plastic regime, gradually there will have modifications in its natural ífequencies, modifications these identified being proceeded a modal analysis that it determines the changes in the autovalues and autovectors while members of the truss suffer axial plastification, turning the structure more flexible with the progress of the elastic-plastic behavior. As it will be demonstrated, trusses with constant axial rigidities for all their elements present the peculiarity of they possess efforts and reactions obtained through the elastic criterion coincident with found through the euclidian minimum norm criterion. This way, those efforts can be calculated independently of the used material constituent relationships. Those trusses will be called "euclidian trusses". With the disposition of taking in consideration the previously commented regimes and criteria, Computer programs were developed in this research for analysis and synthesis of 3D trusses starting from: elastic analysis; elastic-plastic analysis (increment method); euclidian minimum norm criterion (Mello, 1980); and minimum weight design. At the end of this work some examples are solved through the developed programs and are presented here. Starting from these examples, comparisons among the performance of the used criteria are made. The program of minimum weight design makes interface with the routines of the commercial program of optimization LINDO (Linear Design Optimization) to solve the mathematical programming problems inherent to the used formulation.
