| Abstract: | Agriculture in the 21st century has increasingly demanded that the problems faced in agriculture be reduced by using renewable inputs and with low potential for environmental contamination. In this sense, the use of products based on natural substances and microorganisms capable of stimulating growth and / or protecting plants against diseases has been required. The present work aimed to evaluate the potential of the aqueous extract obtained from vermicompost enriched with Trichoderma spp. as growth stimulant and control of the root knot nematode in tomato plants and the other with bellpepper. For this, two experiments were installed, one with tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. cv. "Santa Cruz") and bellpepper (Capsicum annuum L. cv "Magali R"), which were artificially inoculated with the root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita). As a possible growth-inducing agent and treatment, the aqueous extract of vermicompost, herein described as water-soluble humic extract (EHSA), was used. The vermicompost was used as a source of bioactive substances and also as a possible growth medium for the population of two species of Trichoderma (Trichoderma asperellum and T. virens), which have been reported as potential biological control agents of the root knot nematode. The treatments were: EHSA of vermicompost (V), EHSA of vermicompost fortified with T. asperellum (V + TA), EHSA of vermicompost fortified with T. virens (V + TV), EHSA of vermicompost fortified with T. asperellum + T. virens (V + TA + TV) and control, without addition of EHSA. Biometric measurements were performed on the photosynthetic rate, nutrient content and reproduction of the root knot nematode. It was observed that, for the tomato, the V + TA + TV treatment increased the efficiency of water use. Productivity was increased in all treatments with addition of EHSA, with a significant increase of 864% for V + TV in relation to the control. However, the antagonism of Trichoderma spp. was not effective in reducing reproduction of M. incognita under the conditions of this experiment. The nutrient accumulation in the treated tomato plants was also higher mainly for N, K, Ca and S. For pepper, it was observed that the efficiency of water use was increased by 94% by V + TV treatment and 43% by V + TA treatment in relation to control. V + TV was efficient in the promotion of the growth of the pepper plants, presenting bigger shoot mass and larger root mass. However, the plants treated with vermicompost EHSA showed higher productivity. Dose reductions in the number of eggs and eventual J2 of M. incognita were also observed for treatments with addition of EHSA, with emphasis on V and V + TA + TV treatments. The accumulation of nutrients in pepper plants treated with EHSA was also higher mainly for N, Ca, Mg, B, Fe and Mn. Therefore, the use of EHSA of vermicompost enriched with Trichoderma spp. in the conditions of the present study, induced tolerance mechanisms in tomato and pepper plants, that even under high nematode infestations the plants managed to achieve good vegetative growth and satisfactory productivity. |
