Abstract: Six prestressed reinforced concrete flat slabs were tested using unbonded tendons (five slabs) and concrete with resistance between 35 and 45 MPa. The slabs were 2000 x 2000 x 120 mm and submitted to symmetric punching with the objective of studying the influence of small horizontal bends at the cables on the punching shear capacity of the slabs. The slabs tested are typical of buildings interiors. Horizontal bends are usuaily found in buildings as results of the columns being not at the same plan axis. This subject has nol: been dealt in any code or recommendation. The main variable studied is the horizontal profile of the cables. varying the bends of the cables in plan. The vertical profile of the cables for all slabs were polygonal. Results of ultimate loads and failure types, cracking, deflections, ductility, concrete and reinforcement strains are presented and analyzed. Results are also compared to those obtained previously by Corrêa (2001) and Alves (2002). Tests results indicates that is small the influence of the horizontal bends on the ultimate punching shear capacity of the slabs (inclinations up to 30° were utilized). The biggest difference registered at the ultimate punching shear capacity f the slabs was 3.5%, between slab L6 v404 kN) with curved cables (30°) at the two directions, and slab L5 (390,4 kN) with curved cables (14°) at the two directions, after the ultimate loads were corrected. The results were also compareo with codes estimates and reccmmendations. ACI-318/95 and EC2/98 presented the best estimates for the ultimate punching shear resistnnces of the prestressed slabs while FIP/y8 and NBR 6118/2002 presented the best estimates for the ultimate punching shear resistance of the reinforced concrete slab (reference).
