| Abstract: | Cancer, also called malignant neoplasm, is caused by the transformation of a normal cell into a tumor. Breast cancer is currently considered the second most frequent type in the world and the most common among women. The diagnosis of early stage breast cancer allows for a more effective and less aggressive treatment, but most cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, thus reducing the chances of survival because of this, it is so important the early diagnosis to avoid the process of metastasis. In this study we used as study drug lapatinib, which is a drug used in the treatment of advanced and metastatic breast cancer. The objective of this work was to develop and characterize PLGA nanoparticles, containing this chemotherapeutic and functionalizing the same with leucine, aiming to develop a system of encapsulation and drug targeting for future application in the treatment of cancer. The nanoparticles were prepared by the solvent evaporation method and were functionalized by coupling with EDC / NHS to then add the leucine on the surface of the particles. The techniques used to characterize the nanoparticles were: spectroscopy in the UV-vis region, fluorescence emission and FTIR. Particle size was determined by dynamic scattering of light and morphology by SEM. The results showed that encapsulation efficiency was 95.17% and FTIR spectra confirmed the encapsulation of the drug and the interaction of the nanoparticle with leucine, thus confirming functionalization. It is concluded that the nanoparticles produced in this work are promising structures for the development of new pharmaceutical forms for the treatment of cancer. |
