Abstract: The objective of this study was to project growth eucalyptus stand thinned at individual trees level. The data come from a experimental stand with approximately 2.10 ha, implanted in space 3.0 m x 2.0 m located in Brasilia, Federal District, Brazil. The thinning was performed at 60 months and the treatments corresponded to different percentages of reduction in the number of individuals, being: T0: control (no thinning); T25: reduction of 25% in the number of individuals; T33: reduction of 33% in the number of individuals; T50: reduction of 50% in the number of individuals. Data collection occurred at 60 months (before thinning) and at 67, 74, 81, 88 and 95 months, the variables collected were: diameter at 1.30 m height (DBH) of all individuals and total height of 50 trees for each treatment. This work was divided into three chapters where, in Chapter I, the changes occurred in the dendrometric characteristics were showed and hypsometric models were adjusted for different treatments at each age, being selected the one that provided more precise estimates of the total height of the trees. In Chapter II, we evaluated and proposed different competition indexes independent and semiindependent of distance, in order to obtain indexes sensitive to the thinning effect and consistent with tree growth in different treatments. The best indexes were selected for the growth studies presented in the later chapter. In Chapter III, we adjusted different growth models in diameter and total height for individual trees for each competition index. Simulations of different thinning intensities and growth projection up to 95 months of age were performed in order to verify the accuracy and consistency of the estimates provided by the models. After the analysis, we observed that, in general, the different intensities of thinning influenced the growth in DBH, but there was no influence on the growth in total height. We also verified that the model proposed by Curtis resulted in the best estimates of total height at the different intensities of thinning and we observed that the different diametric growth rates made it impossible to use a single hypsometric equation for the different treatments at each age. Among the traditional indexes independent of distance, only the BAL is indicated to represent the competition in thinned stands. The inclusion of variable AB24, summation of the sectional areas of the 24 trees closest to the object tree, in the calculation of competition indexes independent and semi-independent of distance results in increased efficiency to describe the competition between trees in thinned stands. The Linear model provided more accurate estimates of growth in diameter and total height of individual trees. In the simulations and projection of the growth until the 95 months of age, the equations derived from the Linear model adjusted with the BAL and NBAL indexes, captured the effect of the different intensities of thinning and efficiently projected the growth in DBH and Ht. We concluded that the models obtained in this study provided accurate and consistent estimates, both statistically and biologically, for thinned stand eucalyptus at the individual tree level.
