Abstract:	Mental health care in Brazil went through what was called "psychiatric reform", which demanded a new way of caring, based on social insertion, autonomy and the appreciation of the potentialities of people with mental suffering or problems related to alcohol and other drugs use. The Brazilian government adopted this as a new National Mental Health Policy. Among its principles there´s the paradigm of caring by putting hospitalization as the last alternative of care and by creating substitutive services for the psychiatric hospital, including the Psychosocial Care Centers for people with alcohol and other drug use disorders - CAPS-ad. That new way of caring implied a new logic and new services, but its consolidation is still in process and its guidelines and dynamic practices are still poorly structured. In this context, it is up to the manager to organize the service to carry out the National Policy on Mental Health into practice. This study aimed to highlight the challenge of management and its possibilities of solution by presenting the process experienced by the CAPS-ad of the Brazilian Federal District, from the perspective of its managers. That data was made with semi-structured interviews and the recovery of the memory of Workshop of Alignments that was developed in 2014; the own author was one of these managers and contributed with the material to be analyzed. The collected material was worked with content analysis, being categorized according to eight principles of the National Policy on Mental Health added to a ninth category that deals specifically with management. The results presented the understanding, difficulties and solutions developed in the CAPS-ad of the Brazilian Federal District bringing those principles into practice. It was concluded that the common challenges for the implementation of the principles are due to SES / DF's planning / investment failures in the field of mental health and the insufficient training of the professionals who work in those services and about its model of caring. The solutions developed focus on continuous and reflective education and the organization of the service, taking the National Policy on Mental Health guidelines as priorities. In addition, it was concluded that the alignment and sharing of understandings, difficulties and management solutions between services facilitates and favors the transposition processes and that studies like this one, but one of a larger scope, will be important for the consolidation and effectiveness of the model developed.
