Abstract:	This dissertation is circumscribed within the area of aesthetics. It elaboratesreflections about how affects can appear as a privileged narrative in cinema to the point of becoming the style of an author. The main argument of the research is that the Brazilian moviemaker Karim Aïnouz develops a style of cinema of affects in three of his films of the years 2000: O Céu de Suely, Viajo porque preciso, volto porque te amo e Praia do Futuro. Having in mind the importance of affects such as belonging, friendship, love and courage in these films, we discuss the compositive relation among these affects as well as the conceptual and theoretical forms with which they are articulated one another, from film to film, so as to produce potencies of life. We also try to understand the importance of the style of the director in the invention of a particular expression within the new Brazilian cinema. This dissertation is also a debate on ethics given the fact it analyses singular forms of life, modes of thought and of action that conduct the characters of the stories towards self knowledge and self transformation, forms that may contribute to the subjective asceticism and the knowledge to affects of those who experiment this kind of film. When proposing existential alternatives to emotional clichés, to paralyzing identities and to the subtlest forms of social subjection, the director creates a style of cinema of affects that operates ethically as an affirmative ontology of contemporary sensibility.
