Abstract:	This thesis deals with the theme of pain in users who use the primary care services (APC) in Ceilândia, Federal District/Brazil. The goal was to understand the meaning attributed to pain and characterize it concerning sex, age, type of pain, local and medication prescription. Based in the context of social psychology and medicine, it is a quali-quantitative research, whose methods and techniques consisted of collecting, analyzing, interpreting the discursive practices of patients, oriented by the statistical analysis and social constructionism as methodological conceptual theory. As a tool for collection of discursive practices, we used semi-structured interviews. To the characterization of pain, it was used the health care form, and the SAS® software to generate the results. The survey results indicate that the meanings attributed to pain permeate the psychic-somatic binomial, whose explanation and description face differences of gender order; for women the pain appears as diffuse, undifferentiated; in males, pain is established in an objective and tangible way. Among the resources used for pain relief in women, it is striking the presence of drugs and body practices, and in males are self-control and the use of popular care, as tea. In pain characterization, there is a predominance of women in the APS services (61.6%) regarding men (38.34%). Relating age, the predominant range is between 60 and 79 years old (35.08%). The frequency of pain in patients in general was 61.12%. When the variable was related to sex and physical pain, it was observed that women have 41.77% of complaints, compared to 19.35% in men. The odds ratio for physical pain and sex shows that the chance of a woman states that she has some physical pain is 2,043 times (range 1436-2906 with 95% confidence) the chance to a man declares some physical pain; and the chance of a woman reporting that pain has a greater amount of places on the body is 3.10 (range 2133-5137 with 95% confidence). Women report more psychological pain than men, that is, the chance of a woman states that she has some psychic pain is 5,763 times (range 3560-9331, with 95% confidence) the chance to a man declares he has any complaint of pain with psychological characteristics. Women use all researched medicinal products for analgesia when compared to men. Both in the narrative of users and in its characterization, women are protagonists in the use of primary care services and tits medical treatment resources. However, it is noteworthy that in a situation in which the mind does not accept the pain and the conflict, to both men and women, the body will respond in a relentless way and sense: talking or silent.
