Agentes imperfeitas : contribuições do feminismo para a análise da relação entre autonomia, preferências e democracia

Abstract

O artigo discute a noção de autonomia e o processo de formação das preferências, considerando abordagens distintas na teoria política feminista. O respeito às crenças e preferências individuais tem sido considerado um aspecto central da democracia pela tradição liberal. Mas mesmo nessa tradição, há entendimentos distintos de como essas preferências são definidas, como elas estão relacionadas às posições sócio-estruturais dos indivíduos e às oportunidades abertas ou limitadas por essas posições. As análises feministas consideram os constrangimentos, mas também os incentivos e interpelações que constituem as preferências e as identidades em contextos nos quais há desigualdades sociais. O artigo enfoca as tensões entre o valor da autonomia individual, tomado como premissa epistemológica e política, e o entendimento crítico da opressão e da dominação como a base para a produção social das identidades. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

The article discusses the issue of autonomy and preferences considering different approaches in feminist political theory. The respect for individual beliefs and preferences has been considered a main feature for democracy within liberal tradition. But even in this tradition there are distinct understandings of how those preferences are defined, how they are connected to individual structural positions and the opportunities that those positions open or constrain. Feminist analysis considers constraints, but also evocations and interpellations, constituting preferences and identities in contexts of social inequalities. The work focuses on the tensions between the value of individual autonomy, taken as an epistemological and a political framework, and the critical understanding of oppression and domination as the basis for socially produced identities.
