Abstract:	This research takes Neighbouring Sounds (2012), the film that inaugurated Pernambuco’s Post-Retomada cinema and was directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, as its starting point for an analysis of everyday poetics that are not grounded in the discursivity of the body. The focus is on the creative uses of household appliances by the character Bia (Maeve Jinkings). Moving away from perspectives that reduce the consumption of globalised objects to cultural homogenisation, the study investigates how the neighbourhood of Setúbal in Recife is traversed by modernisation. It analyses how consumer items are appropriated through local meanings, thereby updating power relations. As space transforms, so does socialisation, generating identities that are both globalised and localised. In this context, the construction of a possible female subjectivity within this time-space is reflected upon. Household appliances, as deterritorialised objects, are re-signified by Bia in ways that subvert their intended use. Her silent gestures traverse the disciplining of the female body, proposing a deviation from the inscribed texts and crossing the boundaries of movement and visibility. This research conducts an internal analysis of the film, grounded in the analytical constructions developed by Deleuze (2018a; 2018b), with the aim of mapping the agreements and disagreements that emerge from Bia’s use of consumer objects.
