Abstract:	The Superintendência de Desenvolvimento do Centro-Oeste(Midwest Development Superintendence –Sudeco) was created in 1967 to continue the planning and regional occupation work initiated by the Fundação Brasil Central(Brazil Central Foundation –FBC) inthe “March to the West”state program (1938). During this colonizing advance, Sudeco was responsible forterritorial planning through Special programs, such as: Polamazônia, Polocentro, Prodepan andPergeb, which favored the implantation of support infrastructures (highways, airstrips,communication networks, dams), the opening of new agricultural frontiers, the managed migration,andthe creation of producer and consumer hubs. In addition, they allowed the urbanization, either by empowerment existing urban centers or by conductingthe emergence of new cities by private initiative, as the projectof Liquilândia (1975) in Mato GrossoStatereveals. Methodologically, the recue ofprimary sources fromSudeco collection, in the National Archives in Brasilia, allowedthis article to reveal the processthat motivatedthe conceptionof a new city. By studying the universe of Sudeco and the particularcase of Liquilândia, we present asresults the deviationsandsuccessesrelatedto thegestational stage of an intendedcity, broadening the understanding of this process andenriching research on the recent history of the city and urbanismin Brazil.
