Abstract:	The present work has as its object of study the phenomenon of critical decisions in a theoretical and clinical perspective. The case study was the methodological resource used as a strategy for clinical demonstration of the theme developed from two cases presented. These were compared to psychoanalytic theory in order to investigate critical decisions as concepts and theoretical elaborations were related to the object of study. Decision and crisis, despite their complementarity found in other areas of knowledge, do not have this same explanation in psychoanalysis, as demonstrated in the bibliographical review carried out on the themes. Every crisis demands a decision, but not every decision is the result of a crisis, which I call critical decisions in this work. Often approached in a generic way, the crisis in psychoanalysis represents a vast and comprehensive theme. Decision, in turn, was not made explicit as an object of psychoanalytic study by Freud and its subsequent development was incipient. The study of critical decisions is justified by their presence and relevance in the clinical routine. Throughout the work, the relationship between critical decision and the tragic is demonstrated. It is explained as an instinctual phenomenon, since it is related to consciousness, temporality, para-excitation, trauma, inhibition, instinctual connection and objectification function and its antagonistic pairs, to symbolization, emancipatory potential and sublimation, in addition to being categorized as an intermediate process. Its relationship with the framework is developed given the need to establish a tailored framework for critical situations and, consequently, the mobilization of the internal framework of the clinician when required in its malleability. A metapsychology of critical decision is outlined based on topical, economic and dynamic aspects related to the phenomenon. The critical decision is approached in its metapsychology as an act and as an affection in the light of behaviors such as acting out and resource to the act.
