Abstract: The main goal of this dissertation is to analyze the continuing education courses, intended to Educational Interpreters (IE), offered by the Centers of Support for the Deaf (CAS) in Brazil, and more specifically the continued education courses offered by the CAS-DF. In line with the main goal, were established the following specific goals: i. to make a literature review about the Educational Interpreter’s profile; ii. to research the offer of training for Sign Language Interpreters in Brazil; iii. to analyze the proposals for continuing education courses for IE offered by the CAS in Brazil, focusing on the ones offered by CAS-DF. The method consists of a descriptive and exploratory study, with procedures based on documentary research and content analysis. The data analysis is supported by the quali-quantitative approach (GIL, 2008; LAKATOS e MARCONI, 2015). Aiming the documentary analysis, institutional documents from the CAS (courses’ newsletters and courses’ proposals) were used as fonts. The theoretical basis is informed by the Translation Studies (CAVALLO, 2019; CAVALLO e REUILLARD, 2016; PAGURA, 2004; PEREIRA, 2015; POCHHACKER, 2004; RODRIGUES e SANTOS, 2018), studies about the Educational Interpreters (ALBRES, 2015; KELMAN, 2005; LACERDA, 2008; LEITE, 2004; QUADROS, 2004; ROSA, 2006; SANTOS, 2007; TUXI, 2009) and the translators and interpreters’ training (CAVALLO, 2019; COSTA, 2018; GONLÇALVES, 2017; KELLY, 2005, 2008, 2010; KIRALY, 1995, 2000, 2017; PACTE 2001, 2003; HUSTADO ALBIR, 2017; RODRIGUES, 2018). In this study are discussed the training requirements, from Brazilian legal documents, and the concept of ‘competence’, in the Education Sciences and the Translation Studies. Thus, are analyzed: the continuing education courses, offered in 2018, from 14 CAS; the proposals courses from five CAS, also offered in 2018; nine proposals courses from CAS-DF, offered between the years of 2004 and 2019. The data analysis points to different proposals for continuing education. Those proposals do not present an offer pattern. Besides, it is noticeable the absence of a general goal able to attend the IE's needs. The proposals also lack in a theoretical approach that promotes the acquisition and development of the professional’s (translator or interpreter) competence to act in the educational context. Furthermore, the analysis indicates that most of the syllabus, despite the contents related to the fields of Translation Studies and Interpretation, do not deepen those theories, additionally neither the approach used for the professionals’ training, or the model of competence development are pointed out. Thus, a distance is established between the offered training and the fields of Translation Studies and Interpretation. This distance, regarding the theoretical approach in the training of translators and interpreters acting in an educational context, has implications for the performance and training of those professionals.
