Abstract:	The present thesis wants to retake the discussion on the survival of images and the manifestation of ghostly forms in art from the called “nameless science” conceived by Aby Warburg in opposition to the formalist method of Alois Riegl and Heinrich Wölfflin, and to the tradition based on the ideal of beauty diffused by Giorgio Vasari and Johann Joachim Winckelmann. Thus, it’s been proposed that the appearance of ghosts in the materiality of the artistic object originates, like ancient myths, in the semiological territory is settled between knowing and not knowing. Furthermore, as pointed out by Georges Didi-Huberman and Giorgio Agamben about the Warburgian historical model, this study investigates the disturbance not only in terms of its aesthetic implications, but also in terms of its temporal implications. Therefore, the concepts of Nachleben and Pathosformel are analyzed from an anthropological and, above all, psychological perspective, concluding that the phantasmatic forms, transmitted by memories, correspond to the structure of a Freudian symptom.
