| Abstract: | This study aims to discuss the different repercussions in the course of the reversal of voluntary retirement and permanent disability retirement of public servants of a federal public institution supported by the conceptual approach of the Psychodynamics of Work. This research uses a qualitative approach, descriptive and comparative, and the exploratory type. Five (5) civil servants who went through the voluntary retirement reversal process and 5 (five) who experienced the reversal of permanent disability retirement participated in the research, making a total of 10 participants. The semi-structured interview conducted individually was used as a research instrument, based on a previously defined script. The interviews were analyzed using the categorical content analysis technique (Bardin, 1977). The results of the thematic analysis pointed to the construction of a set of 5 synthesis categories in Group I, and 6 in Group II. The two groups shared 5 common categories related to the centrality of work, the pleasure-suffering experiences inherent to work, the mediation strategies used and the financial losses resulting from retirement. However, the themes, although largely coinciding, appeared with different frequency, revealing the intensity of the psychic load attributed to each category by group of interviewees. In the second group, there was a 6th category focused on perceived social support. Therefore, due to a didactic choice and due to the distinct characteristics of the reversal of voluntary retirement or permanent disability retirement, we treated the analyzes by grouping and in the outcome, we punctuated reflections on the identified particularities. The results demonstrated the need to know the course of the retirement and reversion process, showing different views and impacts on the two groups regarding the cessation of formal work and the motivations for returning, involving the aforementioned themes. The analysis of these results by group showed that, in the reversal of voluntary retirement, the economic issue associated with reduced income, prevailed as the main influencing factor for the returning to work, added to the importance of socio-professional relationships and the centrality of work. The results of this research showed the complexity of factors related to disability retirement and its reversal process, with important impacts on the subjectivity and identity of the workers, directly linked and particularly to the role of work, which generates repercussions beyond the prohibition of the work exercise preceded and imposed by illness. At this point, the centrality of work with its ontological and teleological characteristics appears as a sense of existence, of appreciation and recognition of belonging in the world. The interruption caused by retirement shows how this moment is complex and how it can become a negative experience, depending on the meaning attributed to work, the recognition provided by the work, financial conditions, family configurations, health conditions, the existence of other sources of personal achievement, among others. All these aspects have repercussions on the decision to retire, be retired, remain retired, as well as return to work, in this case, through reversion. The analysis of the results demonstrates, due to the heterogeneous characteristics of the two sets of interviewees, the necessity to define specific public and institutional policies aimed at reversing voluntary retirement and permanent disability retirement. |
