Abstract:	This work mobilizes the concept of episteme, by Michel Foucault (1999), to formulate the hypothesis of an episteme of affect. Based on this hypothesis, the first chapter seeks to design an analytical scheme based especially on Baruch Spinoza’s (2009) reflections on affect and its consequences in contemporary theory. Affects are fibers that are exposed in the analyzes. In the first chapter, the analysis of affects is rehearsed from the reading of Foucault’s The order of things: an archeology of the human sciences (1999). This mode of analysis is retaked in the following chapters, when we go down to the details and specifics of the empirical objects under analysis. In the second chapter, Fernando Pessoa’s Book of disquiet (2016) is analyzed; and in the third, Yasujiro Ozu films, specially the post-war ones. We seek to defend the thesis that the affective perspective places us in a privileged position for an original and creative rereading of texts and images that have been widely read, such as the ones we take as objects of analysis in this work. The interest in affects leads us to reread these texts and images in another way. This rereading is not a search for unraveling what is hidden or in its origin or even beyond those texts and images. Affects are analytical artifacts that enable us to perceive the miniscule, the subtle, the unnoticed. They enable us to perceive the microphysics that animate these texts and images. To adopt the affective perspective is to be contemporary, in the terms defined by Giorgio Agamben (2009, p. 60): “to look at what is before the eyes and see more than what is given”. In the effort of original and creative rereadings of the aforementioned works, a vast bibliography is mobilized, summoning authors related to philosophy, sociology, studies of literature, film and affects. Within this framework, the reflections of Charles Baudelaire (2015; 1996), Walter Benjamin (1969; 1987; 2017; 2009), Georg Simmel (1973; 2006), Roland Barthes (1984; 2004) and Immanuel Kant (2016) on modern sensibility stand out, as well as those by Agamben (2009) and Michel Maffesoli (1998; 2006) on contemporary sensibility, those by Terry Eagleton (2005) and Gyorgy Lukács (1968) on literature, those by Gilles Deleuze (1985; 2013) and Serguei Eisenstein (2002) on film and those by Spinoza (2009), Deleuze and Félix Guattari (2007), Brian Massumi (2002) and Eugenie Brinkema (2014) on affects. Based on this bibliography, the thesis, in three movements, crosses The order of things, the Book of disquiet and Ozu’s films, in order to find, in this journey, Foucault’s discommodity, Pessoa’s disquiet and Ozu’s boredom, affects that take us to the other side of thought or to what Foucault (1999) called the thoughtless.
