Abstract:	Tuberculosis is an important cosmopolitan bacterial infecto-contagious zoonosis. The disease affects numerous domestic animals, including buffaloes. A census study was performed in Distrito Federal to verify the apparent prevalence of bubaline tuberculosis. Five-hundred and eighty-one animals of all ages in 17 farms were analyzed by the comparative cervical test (CCT), considering the following interpretation of B− A: 0 to 1,9 – negative, 2 to 3,9 – inconclusive and ≥ 4,0 – positive. Three animals of two farms were positive (two in one farm and another one in other propertie). Buffaloes with two inconclusive results were considered positive. In the current study, 13 animals presented inconclusive result in the first test, but none was confirmed in the second evaluation. The apparent herd prevalence was 11.76% (2/17), while animal prevalence was 0.52% (3/581). The properties in Distrito Federal have some peculiar characteristics, including farms primarily focused on non-commercial dairy production and others where the buffaloes are bred as pet animals. Most farms presented low level of technification, low productivity and need better sanitary control. Analyzing the data by Chi-Square test (χ2), the type of beef exploration was the only factor associated to diagnosis of bubaline tuberculosis in DF. Data of the current study demonstrate that tuberculosis is present in bubaline herds of DF. The prevalence of the disease proved to be higher in herds than in animals, but compatible with the implementation of strategic measures aiming its eradication in this Federative Unit, mainly due to the small number of farms and animals.
