Abstract:	In this thesis, we study the treatment that Lucian and Christian apologists of the second century give to what they consider to be the truth, taking into account the sophistic and philosophical thought and the ancient historiographical approach. The method consists of bringing Lucian and the apologists to the same field of discussion, from the perspective of a broader literary movement, the Second Sophistic, in order to analyze the ways that one sheds new light on the other’s work. It is noted that in Lucian the notion of the term “truth” basically occurs at the level of two investigative dimensions: one philosophical and the other historical. In the apologists’ literary production, there is no separation analogous to that observed in Lucian. In the field of historical investigation, Lucian’s work Quomodo historia conscribenda sit seems to associate what is the truth with facts and events as they happened, dispensing with the participation of opinion. For apologists, in turn, the truth seems to be associated not with facts and events, but with their interpretation of them, incorporating the participation of “myth” and “fantastic”, even though they may not be fully aware of the fictitious value that their reports have as Lucian would immediately have perceived. In the scope of philosophical investigation, we analyze how Lucian bases his understanding of what is the truth, not in dogmas manipulable by δόξα in association with πίστις, but in something more noticeable, such as the individual's life and the coherence of his attitudes, in the present. Apologists, on the other hand, base their understanding of truth on dogmatic philosophy and come to apprehend it through the protagonism of their πίστις
