| Abstract: | Global warming is one of the biggest effects of climate change. A global fact, this phenomenon affects all organisms in the most diverse environments. Many studies focus on these effects in adult individuals, but little is known about the effects of warming on the development of species. Development by itself is an extremely regulated event, which is subject to several intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Thus, any variation in these parameters can lead to the death of the developing organism, or bring different phenotypes to appear. In some of these cases, developmental abnormalities, morphological or functional changes in the animal's innate structures, emerge. Animals that have external development to the mother's body, like many lizards, are more directly affected to variations in the environment, so the appearance of anomalies may be related to these parameters. Tropidurus torquatus, a species of lizards with wide distribution in the Cerrado, has a wide range of offspring and ontogeny, as well as a high degree of synanthropy, which makes it ideal for embryology and abnormal development studies. We aim to quantify and describe the types of anomalies in T. torquatus, at different egg incubation temperatures, as well as the mortality rates. Pregnant females were captured and kept in terrariums until the time of spawning. The eggs were randomly placed in one of five treatments: (Control) constant temperature of 30ºC, (A) environment temperature; (B) constant temperature of 32.5ºC, (C) of 32.5ºC with a peak of 39ºC for two hours, (D) constant temperature of 35ºC. The eggs that did not hatch were fixed in formaldehyde and the embryos dissected. In total, we obtained 150 eggs, of which 113 were fertilized. Anomaly rates ranged from 20.83% to 44.44%, in treatments B and D, respectively, while mortality rates ranged from 24.24% to 100% in treatments A and D, with the hotter treatments significantly influencing the mortality. |
