| Abstract: | The Torto/Santa Maria Water Supply System, located in the National Park of Brasília (PNB) is one of the main water supply systems for the population of the Federal District (DF). This system is responsible for the supply of water to about 25% of the population of the Federal District and includes the Santa Maria Water Reservoir (RSM). In recent years, there has been a large population increase in the Federal District, with the disordered anthropic occupation in areas bordering GNP, which cover most of the springs and water bodies of the water shed of this water supply system. This anthropic occupation can provide negative impacts on the quantity and quality of the water captured in this system. The water crisis of 2017 in the Federal District was caused by the lack of water availability of water supply systems, generating water shortages and rationing for a large part of the population. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of factors that contributed to the reduction of water in the water bodies of the Torto/Santa Maria Water Supply System, Federal District, during the water crisis of 2017. A temporal evaluation of land uses and occupations in the waterinfluenced area of the study area was carried out in a historical series from 1984 to 2019, using remote sensing techniques in Landsat images. It was verified the relationship of the amount of water of the RSM with the variability of the rainfall regime over a historical series from 1987 to 2019. Physical, chemical and biological parameters of water quality of this supply system were also evaluated, made available by the Environmental Sanitation Company of the Federal District (CAESB). The results showed that the uses and occupations of the lands of the studied area underwent little variation over the years evaluated, with the native vegetation of GNP remaining practically unchanged, without important negative effects of anthropic activities in the water supply system studied. However, it was found that the amount of water in the RSM is controlled by the rainfall regime and the water quality attributes studied did not reveal influences in relation to anthropic uses and occupations. It can be concluded that during the water crisis of 2017, the Torto/Santa Maria water supply system was little affected by anthropic activity, due to the environmental protection of GNP, with a decrease in the amount of water in the MSW due to lower rainfall in previous years and an increase in water detams due to the population increase in df. It was also verified a seasonality of the rainfall regime in the Federal District, indicating that other water crises may occur and that environmental protection measures with the conservation of soils and water are essential for the provision of water from water bodies for the supply of the population of the Federal District. |
