Abstract:	This work’s main goal is to describe the actuation of sign language translators and interpreters in the context of the multilingual event 6º Congresso Nacional de Pesquisas em Tradução e Interpretação de Libras e Língua Portuguesa, 2º Congresso Nacional de Pesquisas em Linguística e Libras and V Encuentro de Sordos e Intérpretes de Lengua de Señas – with the intention of identifying the peculiarities in this scope of actuation in comparison to bilingual conferences and the challenges, strategies and skills required of the professionals involved. The main authors who comprise the theoretical basis for this research are: Moreno Cabrera (2016), Nogueira (2016), Pagura (2003), Barbosa (2014), Guarinello et al. (2017), Rodrigues (2018), Faria e Galán-Mañas (2018), and de Wit (2010). The methodological path adopted was descriptive in nature and follows a qualitative approach. The first step in the research was a documental and bibliographic analysis to assess the themes approached by the university courses that train sign language translators/interpreters in Brazil. The analysis sought to identify the possible offer of other working languages, in addition to Portuguese and Libras. Then, the conference was studied through observation. After the event, questionnaires were applied to the team's interpreters and an interview was conducted with the interpreters’ coordinator, to better understand the organization of the team. The analysis of the obtained data evidenced that the curricula of the courses do not foresee training beyond the language pair Libras - Portuguese. The official language of the event was Libras and simultaneous interpretation into Portuguese, Spanish and International Signs was guaranteed, allowing users of other languages to bring their own interpreters. From the observation, it was possible to note that the interpretation occurred predominantly directly, however, there were cases of indirect interpretation. Another factor observed was the frequent alternation of language code during one conference and another, which required great organization by the interpretation team, which acted in a coordinated manner. The answers of the interpreters showed that most of them have knowledge of another language, at a basic or intermediate level, and that they have had other experiences in multilingual contexts. In addition, terminology and prior access to content for preliminary study were the greatest difficulty in the multilingual context, as well as the need for action strategies distinct from a bilingual context. On the other hand, with regard to logistics and working conditions, both the observation of the event and the reports of the participants showed that the organization was very careful with the working conditions of the interpretation team. When asked about training in the perspective of acting in a multilingual context, all participants pointed out that it would be necessary due to the specifics of the situation. Based on the findings, possible solutions are suggested for a sign language interpreter training concerned with the reality of multilingual conferences.
